The key to hiring the "right" applicant is to do a thorough job analysis to determine the necessary knowledge, skills, and behavior required for the position, and then develop open-ended questions designed to encourage the applicant to describe his or her work experiences. By encouraging the applicant to describe his or her experiences and behaviors in specific situations, the manager can predict how the potential employee will react or behave in the new position.
