Clinical Manifestations.

Background: Characterizing dementia risk is difficult with traditional neuropsychological testing. Ecological Momentary Cognitive Testing (EMCT) uses ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methods to sample daily life cognition. The current study examined how daily activities were related to EMCT performance and explored whether associations remained when stratifying by amyloid-beta (Aβ) status.

Clinical Manifestations.

Background: Unsupervised high-frequency cognitive-ecological momentary assessment (EMA) on smartphones is increasingly used to assess preclinical risk for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). While these tests are reliable and valid for individuals with preclinical ADRD, it is unclear whether administering cognitive EMAs to people living with ADRD is feasible and valid. Our study explored the feasibility and validity on cognitive EMA tests in people living with moderate to severe ADRD.

Experienced-based co-design for cardiovascular and chronic disease research.

The participatory co-design method has received significant attention recently. Experience-based co-design is an approach that enables patients (service users) and healthcare providers (service delivers) to co-design services and care pathways in partnership to improve health outcomes based on their experience. Traditionally, it was used as a quality improvement technique.

VNS paired with training enhances recognition memory: mechanistic insights from proteomic analysis of the hippocampal synapse.

Introduction: Recognition memory, an essential component of cognitive health, can suffer from biological limitations of stress, aging, or neurodegenerative disease. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a neuromodulation therapy with the potential to improve cognitive function. This study investigated the effectiveness of multiple sessions of VNS to enhance recognition memory in healthy rodents and the underlying cognitive benefits of VNS by proteomic analysis of the synaptosome.

A novel herpesvirus in blue penguins putatively associated with myocardial degeneration and necrosis.

We identified a novel herpesvirus in 2 deceased captive blue penguins (). Moderate-to-severe myocardiocyte atrophy and necrosis, and eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies (INIBs), were seen in myocardiocytes in one bird; reticuloendothelial (RE) cell INIBs and multifocal RE cell necrosis were seen in both birds. The histologic findings were suggestive of viral infection.
