Article Synopsis
  • The Indian pangolin, an endangered species and the only pangolin found in Pakistan, faces severe threats from trafficking and illegal trade.
  • In a study in Nowshera district, researchers used the line transect method to assess the population status, finding only 29 individuals and recording various signs of their presence across a 156 km area.
  • The study also identified suitable habitats for the species, recommending enhanced protection measures and law enforcement to help conserve the Indian pangolin and its environment.

Nile blue (NB) dye is a highly toxic substance that when discharged into sewage presents a significant risk to the environment and human health. Carbon-based nanomaterials, such as graphene oxide (GO), reduced graphene oxide (rGO), and their nanocomposites, offer considerable potential for eliminating hazardous pollutants from aqueous systems. In this study, we have successfully fabricated bare GO and rGO, and then, the rGO was decorated with silver (Ag) nanoparticles to develop the Ag-rGO composite.

In this work there was investigated the synergistic effect of the nanomaterials-the Montmorillonite (MMT) and the vanadium pentoxide (VO) on the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/starch composite. The composite films were prepared by the solvent casting method. The characterization of the composites showed that the addition of the MMT and the VO to PVA/starch composite decreased the water solubility and water absorption capacity of the film.

Ruxolitinib, a selective inhibitor of Janus kinases, is a standard treatment for intermediate/high-risk myelofibrosis (MF) but is associated with a predisposition to opportunistic infections, especially herpes zoster. However, the incidence and characteristics of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) in these patients remain uncertain. In this report, we present the case of a 59-year-old woman with MF who developed disseminated histoplasmosis after seven months of ruxolitinib use.

Human interventions have a great potential of spatially cornering and limiting species, therefore investigating the species distribution is one of the most crucial issues for managing wildlife populations and suggesting robust conservation strategies. Water deer (Hydropotes inermis) are widespread in China throughout history and are endemic to East Asia. However, they disappeared from Northeast China for years.
