Capillary leak phenotype as a major cause of death in patients with POEMS syndrome.

Cause of death (COD) in POEMS (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathies, monoclonal protein and skin changes) syndrome is not well described. We investigated COD in patients with POEMS syndrome treated at Mayo Clinic between 2000 and 2022. Of the 89 deaths, 49 patients had known COD and were the subject of this study.

Retreatment of multiple myeloma with previously refractory drugs.

As patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) continue to live longer, they might get exposed to most available drugs and drug classes during the disease course. For such late line RRMM or among patients without access to novel therapies, retreatment with a drug that the disease had previously been refractory to might be one option. In this retrospective study, we describe 315 patients with RRMM at our institution who were retreated with a drug that the disease had been previously refractory to.

Comparison of progression risk of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance by method of detection.

Monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) is an asymptomatic pre-malignant disorder. The current standard of care is not to screen for MGUS, so it is often incidentally diagnosed in the clinic. It is unknown whether the outcomes of screened versus clinically detected MGUS differ.

Objectives: The study's aim was to explore the prevalence of precarious employment (PE) in Wales prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and examine associations with PE domains across socio-demographics and self-reported health.

Study Design: A cross-sectional design was used to explore the prevalence of PE in Wales prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in February 2020.

Methods: Data were collected from a national household survey carried out in May/June 2020, with a sample of 1032 residents in Wales.

A Novel Whole Tissue Explant Model of Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a relatively common and highly morbid inflammatory skin disease. Due to our relatively limited understanding of HS's pathogenesis, there are currently insufficient treatment options available, and many patients' medical needs are not being met. This is partly due to a scarcity of ex vivo human assays and animal models that accurately recapitulate the disease.
