Background: Exotic animal importation and trade has the potential to expose the public to a variety of injuries and diseases not endemic to the United States. Bonnet Macaque monkeys are a fairly common primate illegally held in captivity. These monkeys become aggressive as they age past 2 years and are known to carry asymptomatic Cercopithecine herpesvirus 1 infection.

Least-mean-squares algorithm to determine submicrometer particle diameter, volume fraction, and size distribution width by elastic light scattering.

A computationally fast method to determine values and their uncertainty for particulate system volume median diameter, volume fraction, and size distribution width is presented. These properties cannot be obtained for submicrometer particulate by diffraction-based methods. The technique relies on a least-mean-squares method applied over a prespecified size range and distribution width.

Multicenter phase II trial of docetaxel and carboplatin in patients with stage IIIB and IV non-small-cell lung cancer.

Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of docetaxel and carboplatin as first-line therapy for patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Patients And Methods: In this multicenter, phase II trial, 33 patients with previously untreated stage IIIB (n = 8) or IV (n = 25) NSCLC received intravenous infusions of docetaxel 80 mg/m2 followed immediately by carboplatin dosed to AUC of 6 mg/ml/min (Calvert's formula) every three weeks. Patients also received dexamethasone 8 mg orally twice daily for three days beginning one day before each docetaxel treatment.

Patients And Methods: Docetaxel (100 mg/m2) was administered every 3 weeks to 46 patients registered at four centers. Patients had previously received < or = two chemotherapy regimens for MBC.
