Background: In addition to the effect of body weight, a patient's sex can influence the pharmacokinetics (PK) of anticancer agents, and thereby their activity and safety. The magnitude and relevance of sex differences, however, are currently unclear.

Methods: We carried out a systematic review of published studies (clinical, n ≥ 10) on Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved (on 31 January 2022) anticancer drugs (excluding hormonal agents), aiming to identify significant PK differences between male and female patients.

Introduction: Necrotising enterocolitis is a devastating gastrointestinal disease predominantly affecting preterm infants. In 40% of cases, its rapid progression renders conservative treatment insufficient, necessitating laparotomy as the sole viable option for survival. However, high perioperative and postoperative mortality rates, along with severe future potential disabilities and suffering, can complicate the decision of whether surgery is still in the infant's best interest.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined survival scenarios for pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAC) patients over 16 years, highlighting best-case, typical, and worst-case survival estimates based on data from the Netherlands Cancer Registry.
  • - Patients with localized PAC showed statistically significant improvements in best-case and typical survival scenarios, with gains averaging 1.54 and 0.24 months annually, respectively, while those with metastatic PAC experienced smaller but significant improvements.
  • - Factors like age, aggressive treatments, and fewer comorbidities were linked to better survival outcomes, suggesting that recent advancements in care may offer hopeful prospects for PAC patients, despite small absolute survival gains.

: As the first sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) in lung cancer are most likely to harbor metastasis, their non-invasive identification could have a significant role in future treatments. We investigated the feasibility of adding an SLN procedure to a diagnostic navigation bronchoscopy. : Thirty-one patients were included for injection of Tc-nanocolloid and an iodinated contrast agent intra-/peritumorally and assessment of tracer dissipation via SPECT and CBCT imaging.

Background: The FLOT4 trial demonstrated superior survival of perioperative chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) compared to anthracycline triplets for resectable gastric cancer. These results were presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) congress in June 2017 and published in April 2019. However, adoption of novel treatments in clinical practice often encounters delays.
