We report the synthesis and structures of two transition-metal complexes involving 2-(2-hy-droxy-phen-yl)benzimidazole (2hpbi - a ligand of inter-est for its photoluminescent applications), with cobalt, namely, bis-[μ-2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato]bis-[ethanol(thio-cyanato)-cobalt(II)], [Co(CHNO)(NCS)(CHO)], (), and manganese, namely, bis-[μ-2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato]bis-{[2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato](thio-cyanato)-mang-an-ese(III)} dihydrate, [Mn(CHNO)(NCS)]·2HO, (). These structures are two recent examples of a fruitful collaboration between researchers at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination Organique/Organic Coordination Chemistry Laboratory (LCCO), University of Dakar, Senegal and the National Crystallography Service (NCS), School of Chemistry, University Southampton, UK. This productive partnership was forged through meeting at Pan-African Conferences on Crystallography and quickly grew as the plans for the AfCA (African Crystallographic Association) developed.

Background: Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is involved in complications on immunocompromised patients. Current therapeutics are associated with several drawbacks, such as nephrotoxicity.

Purpose: As HCMV infection affects inflammation pathways, especially prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production via cyclooxygenase 2 enzyme (COX-2), we designed 2'-hydroxychalcone compounds to inhibit human cytomegalovirus.

Leprosy is an infectious and transmissible disease. According to the WHO, the number of new cases of leprosy in children in Senegal has risen moderately since 2013. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary features of leprosy in children in the geographical areas of two social rehabilitation villages in the region of Thiès.

[Pityriasis versicolor in infants: unusual clinical presentation and role of corticosteroids used as depigmenting agent for cosmetic purposes in the mother].

We report two cases of Pityriasis versicolor (PV) in infants aged 12 and 18 months. The latter were brought to medical attention because of hypochromic and achromic, round macules involving the limbs and the face. Physical examination of their mothers showed voluntary depigmentation for cosmetic purposes due to the use of corticosteroids and hydroquinone, on average, over a 5-year period.
