To address this need, the American Epilepsy Society (AES) supported the development and implementation of both synchronous and asynchronous EEG courses.
Objectives: To produce EEG curricula that enhance resident EEG learning, increase interest in EEG and improve participants' knowledge, and to ensure that courses were highly used and available to the broadest range of learners.
Purpose: Seizures occur in up to 40% of neonates with neonatal encephalopathy. Earlier identification of seizures leads to more successful seizure treatment, but is often delayed because of limited availability of continuous EEG monitoring. Clinical variables poorly stratify seizure risk, and EEG use to stratify seizure risk has previously been limited by need for manual review and artifact exclusion.

Fundoscopic examination revealed bilateral optic nerve oedema as well as peripheral retinal haemorrhages. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed findings consistent with bilateral optic neuritis.
