Chlamydia trachomatis infection positivity rates determined by nucleic acid amplification test in patients of hospitals in the northeastern region of Ukraine.

There are no accurate data regarding the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis infection in Ukraine. This study aims to estimate the prevalence in the northeastern region of the country through reviewing nucleic acid amplification test results in patients of medical institutions in the Kharkov region during 2014-2016. Samples from 6920 patients (5028 women and 1892 men) aged 12-76 years were tested.

Autoimmune thyroid disorders in juvenile chronic arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.

The appearance of autoimmune thyroiditis in the course of other autoimmune diseases, which do not affect specific organs (systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and others), is more frequent than is usually believed. Nevertheless, it is scarcely studied, especially in children. The purpose of this study was to look for autoimmune lesions of the thyroid gland in children suffering from juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Neonatal TSH screening--an instrument of iodine supplementation monitoring in Bulgaria in comparison to Berlin--a preliminary report.

The challenge to eradicate iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) by the year 2000 worldwide will have positive consequences for more than 20 million people suffering from IDD. This is the main and common goal for the developing but also for a lot the developed countries. Sensitive tools like neonatal thyroid screening (NTS) can be used in order to make changes in iodine supplementation more transparent and to have a dynamic target oriented approach.

Genomic variations in mosquitocidal strains of Bacillus sphaericus detected by M13 DNA fingerprinting.

The genomic variation of Bacillus sphaericus reference and local strains belonging to different serotypes was examined by DNA fingerprinting. A phage M13 DNA probe detected a number of variable fragments in the restriction digests of total strain DNAs. The patterns of band distribution showed a certain homology among mosquitocidal strains, expressed by similarity index D and might be a reliable criterion for assessing the level of genomic similarity between closely related strains.
