The phase estimation algorithm is crucial for computing the ground-state energy of a molecular electronic Hamiltonian on a quantum computer. Its efficiency depends on the overlap between the Hamiltonian's ground state and an initial state, which tends to decay exponentially with system size. We showcase a practical orbital optimization scheme to alleviate this issue.

Design: Prespecified analyses of data collected prospectively in a clinical trial with extended follow-up.
Setting And Participants: Participants who developed POAG during OHTS 1 and 2 (February 1994 to December 2008) constitute an inception cohort.
Most respiratory microbiome studies use amplicon sequencing due to high host DNA. Metagenomics sequencing offers finer taxonomic resolution, phage assessment, and functional characterization. We evaluated five host DNA depletion methods on frozen nasal swabs from healthy adults, sputum from people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF), and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) from critically ill patients.

Methods: Using R, pharmacotherapy data were modeled from an existing dataset of adult elective colorectal surgery patients.
Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor high-density microelectrode array (CMOS-HD-MEA) systems can record neurophysiological activity from cell cultures and ex vivo brain slices in unprecedented electrophysiological detail. CMOS-HD-MEAs were first optimized to record high-quality neuronal unit activity from cell cultures but have also been shown to produce quality data from acute retinal and cerebellar slices. Researchers have recently used CMOS-HD-MEAs to record local field potentials (LFPs) from acute, cortical rodent brain slices.
