This review analyzes the state and recent progress in the field of information support for pollen allergy sufferers. For decades, information available for the patients and allergologists consisted of pollen counts, which are vital but insufficient. New technology paves the way to substantial increase in amount and diversity of the data.

We report five male patients, aged 35 to 63 years who suffered from paretic neurosyphilis. The clinical course was that of a subacute dementia with a frontal syndrome, with more apathy than euphoria. All were HIV negative and four were heterosexual.

A set of expressed sequence tag-simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) markers for the genus Mytilus was developed through bioinformatic mining of the GenBank public database. A total of 33 782 EST sequences from GenBank were downloaded and screened for di-, tri- and tetranucleotide, with 1274 EST containing SSR markers. Nine microsatellite markers were characterized in Mytilus californianus with a number of alleles per locus ranging from two to six, and total observed and expected heterozygosities ranging from 0.

Epidemiological surveys demonstrate that unipolar depression is more common in females than in males. Gender-specific cultural and social factors may contribute to the female preponderance. This study explores this possibility in a cross-cultural sample of general-practice patients systematically recruited in the WHO study "Psychological Problems in Primary Care" conducted in 14 countries with identical sampling and assessment strategies.
