The authors report the case of a 1000-gm neonate who developed a frontal brain abscess due to a Serratia marcescens infection. The relationship of the mass to the neighboring ventricle and to the coronal suture was determined by computerized tomography. The mass was then successfully aspirated in the intensive care nursery with ultrasound guidance.

One week later he presented with massive epistaxis from a traumatic aneurysm of the right cavernous carotid artery, which extended into the sphenoid sinus.
