Molecular Epidemiology of Oropouche Virus, Ceará State, Brazil, 2024.

During May-December 2024, we detected Oropouche virus (OROV) in 13.9% (263/1,890) of febrile patients in Ceará state, Brazil. Genomic sequencing revealed those cases were caused by a novel OROV reassortant previously identified in the Amazon region.

Germline Genetic Testing in Breast Cancer: Utilization and Disparities in a Middle-Income Country.

Purpose: Low rates of germline genetic testing (GGT) for breast cancer (BC) have been reported globally, with limited data from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In this study, we used real-world data to assess the GGT rate for BC in an LMIC and identified barriers to its use.

Methods: We analyzed 2,974 newly diagnosed patients with BC from the AMAZONA III study, the largest Brazilian multicenter, prospective BC cohort.

Comparative analysis of phenolic extracts obtained from Lippia alba (Mill.) N. E. Brown leaves by microwave-assisted extraction using eco-friendly solvents.

This study demonstrated that microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) was more effective for the recovery of phenolic compounds from L. alba leaves, compared to traditional methods such as Soxhlet extraction, infusion, and decoction, and resulted in higher antioxidant activity. Ultra-high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis enabled the identification of important phenolic compounds, such as acteoside/isoacteoside and theveside, in addition to several flavonoids, which could explain the high antioxidant activities.

Optimization of a macro-element extraction system from cocoa honey samples using ultrasound and Doehlert design with multiple responses.

Cocoa honey is a product obtained at the beginning of the cocoa bean fermentation process that gets its name from its sweet flavor. Information about its chemical composition is still rarely explored in the literature. A simple, fast, and low-cost procedure of sample preparation based on ultrasound extraction and MIP OES was developed to determine the amounts of Ca, K, Mg, and P found in cocoa honey samples.

Durvalumab as consolidation therapy in patients who received chemoradiotherapy for unresectable stage III NSCLC: Real-world data from an expanded access program in Brazil (LACOG 0120).

Objective: The PACIFIC trial established standard therapy for patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC who did not progress after platinum-based concurrent chemoradiation therapy. However, real-world data, particularly from Latin America, remain limited. The LACOG 0120 study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of consolidation therapy with durvalumab in a real-world setting in Brazil.
