Addressing the Gap, Advancing the Knowledge: Guidance for the Abstract Reviewer.

Conferences often offer a wide variety of informative podium, expert panel, and poster presentations. Conference planners use an abstract review process to select abstracts for the presentations. Although guidance exists for writing abstracts, much less information is available on reviewing abstracts and what constitutes an appropriate review.

[Delusional parasitosis: apropos of a case].

The case of a 52-year-old white female patient with personal and family history of psychiatric disorders and pubic pediculosis that was referred for presenting exulcerated lesions of the skin during the last two years was reported. On the microscopic study, the samples taken from the patient during her admission corresponded to epithelium and hair. The skin biopsy was interpreted as exulceration secondary to scratching, and no evidence of parasites was found.

Immigration and HIV/AIDS in the New York Metropolitan Area.

Because the HIV pandemic undergoes continual change in its locations and affected populations, it is crucial to study HIV risk behaviors among mobile and immigrant groups within and across borders. The impact of cross-cultural migrations and the importance of studying that impact in terms of demographic characteristics as well as cultural and environmental factors has not received adequate attention in public health research. This collaborative analysis utilizes data from three studies of immigrant groups in New York to describe and compare these factors that provide the context for risk and prevention of HIVAIDS and other health challenges.

The concentration of substance use, criminal justice involvement, and HIV/AIDS in the families of drug offenders.

Substance use (SU), criminal justice involvement (CJI), and HIV/AIDS co-occur in many urban families, but little is known about their intergenerational prevalence and the impact of their conjunction on these families. We determined lifetime prevalence of SU, CJI, and HIV/AIDS in 62 families with a member (the index case) on parole or probation for a drug offense and enrolled in the direct service arm of Family Justice, La Bodega de La Familia--a community support program in New York City's Lower East Side. Among these families, index cases are 94% male, and 97% Latino, with a median age of 37.
