Urolithiasis: History, epidemiology, aetiologic factors and management.

Urolithiasis is defined as a disease diagnosed by the presence of one or more stones in the urinary tract. It is one of the oldest and most widespread diseases known to man, their discovery and characterisation chronology began with the civilisation's history. This pathology has a multifactorial aetiology, very frequent worldwide with geographic and racial variation, their prevalence is increasing in lockstep with socioeconomic development.

The aim of this work is to optimise the antibacterial activity of essential oils (EOs) from Eucalyptus camaldulensis (ECEO), Mentha pulegium (MPEO) and Rosmarinus officinalis (ROEO) plants against Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli. The qualitative antimicrobial effect was assessed using the disc diffusion method, the broth microdilution method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC).

The present study aimed to determine the chemical composition and the synergistic effect of three plants' essential oils (EOs), (ECEO), (MPEO), and (ROEO), against three bacterial strains, , , and , in order to increase the antimicrobial effectiveness by the use of a low dose of essential oils, consequently decreasing the toxicity and negative impact. For this reason, an augmented simplex-centroid mixture design was used to build polynomial models in order to highlight the synergy between the essential oils against bacterial strains.
