Background: Bariatric surgery reduces the prevalence of diabetes and improves lipid profiles. Low-density lipoprotein particle (LDL-P) is a more accurate predictor of cardiovascular events than high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and LDL cholesterol. The effects of bariatric procedures on LDL-P have not been previously reported.

Background: Inguinal hernias are the most common operative procedure performed by general surgeons, and tension-free mesh techniques have revolutionized the procedure. Background: Bariatric surgery has been increasingly utilized for treatment of severe obesity. Although initial weight loss following surgery is almost completely assured, little is known about long-term out-come and patient compliance with post-surgical behavioral recommendations for diet and exercise that would improve outcome. The purpose of this study was to examine the rate of noncompliance with behavioral recommendations and to identify the incidence of psychological concerns following bariatric surgery.

Randomized studies have established wide excision and radiation as an equal alternative to mastectomy in the treatment of breast cancer. The early studies mandated pathologically negative margins for those undergoing radiation. The absolute necessity of free margins is uncertain.
