Characterization of pEncl-30969cz, a novel ColE1-like plasmid encoding VIM-1 carbapenemase, from an Enterobacter cloacae sequence type 92 isolate.

A VIM-1-producing ST92 Enterobacter cloacae was isolated in a Czech hospital. bla was part of the class 1 integron In110 carried by a Tn1721-like transposon. Tn1721-like was located on a ColE1-like plasmid, pEncl-30969cz (33,003 bp).

[Current clinical significance of anaerobic bacteremia].

Objective: to estimate tje current clinical significance of anaerobic bacteremia in a group of Czech hospitals.

Material And Methods: this retrospective analysis comprised 8 444 anaerobic blood cultures in patients admitted to four Czech hospitals between 2004 and 2007.

Results: in 16 patients, blood cultures yielded significant anaerobic bacteria.

[On the susceptibility of AmpC-producing bacteria to third-generation cephalosporins].

Enterobacteriaceae with mixed inducible and constitutive production of AmpC beta-lactamases are of growing clinical significance. Strains showing single colonies inside the zone of inhibition around disks with third-generation cephalosporins should be carefully considered for clinical use despite the fact that, according to the current EUCAST "breakpoints", they remain susceptible or intermediate-susceptible.

GIN (Gaps-In-Noise) test performance in subjects with confirmed central auditory nervous system involvement.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the value of a new gap detection procedure called Gaps-In-Noise (GIN) for assessment of temporal resolution in a clinical population.

Design: The test consists of 0 to 3 silent intervals ranging from 2 to 20 msec embedded in 6-sec segments of white noise. The location, number, and duration of the gaps per noise segment vary throughout the test for a total of 60 gaps presented in each of four lists.

[Prevalence of ESBL-positive strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae in the Czech Republic and their molecular biology analysis].

Background: One of the problems of contemporary medicine is an increasing number of bacterial strains with hazardous phenotypes of resistance. The feared bacterial pathogens include Klebsiella pneumoniae strains producing AmpA extended-spectrum beta-lactamases. The study focused on the molecular biological characteristics of ESBL-positive strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae collected in the Czech Republic.
