Pharmacological effects of triamcinolone associated with surgical glue on cutaneous wound healing in rats.

Purpose: The surgical glue is widely used in closing cutaneous surgical wounds. Corticosteroids are indicated for their anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties. The present work evaluated the pharmacological effects of triamcinolone (AT) incorporated into surgical glue (C) on the initial phase of the wound healing process in Wistar rats.

Cancer of the anal region.

Anal canal accounts for 2% of all cancer and its incidence increases with age with a predominance in woman. About 80% of all primary anal canal cancers are squamous; adenocarcinoma arising from the glands or glandular ducts shows a behaviour that is similar to that of the adenocarcinoma of the rectum. Risk factors includes sexually transmitted infection with Human Papillomavirus, cigarette smoking, immunosuppression, and sexual practices.

Percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage and occlusion balloon in the management of duodenal stump fistula.

Background: Duodenal stump fistula (DSF) after gastrectomy is a complication with a high mortality rate. We report a series of patients with postoperative DSF treated with percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage and occlusion balloon (PTBD-OB). The aim of this study is to explore the feasibility and efficacy of PTBD-OB in the treatment of DSF.

Current role of surgery in the treatment of digestive fistulas.

Unlabelled: Surgery is the main treatment of digestive fistulas (DF) but its role has changed over the last 40 years. The aim of this review is to analyze the surgical management of DF paying attention to timing and type of surgery.

Methods: We performed a review considering the following electronic databases: Medline, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE and the reference lists of the key papers.

Sentinel lymph node biopsy in gastric cancer: possible applications and limits.

Aims: To explore the feasibility and accuracy of sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in gastric cancer.

Patients And Methods: Twenty-nine patients with clinical T1 and T2 N0 M0 gastric cancer less than 5 cm in diameter underwent SLN biopsy with the intraoperative Patent blue method. The procedure continued with radical gastrectomy and D2 lymphadenectomy.
