B-cell malignancies, such as chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and multiple myeloma (MM), remain incurable, with MM particularly prone to relapse. Our study introduces a novel mouse model with active RANK signaling and the TCL1 oncogene, displaying both CLL and MM phenotypes. In younger mice, TCL1 and RANK expression expands CLL-like B1-lymphocytes, while MM originates from B2-cells, becoming predominant in later stages and leading to severe disease progression and mortality.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel potexvirus called "Adenium obesum virus X" (AobVX) was discovered in Adenium obesum plants imported into Australia from China and analyzed at quarantine facilities.
  • The virus has a complete genome of 6781 nucleotides and likely encodes several essential potexvirus proteins across five open reading frames.
  • AobVX's RNA-dependent RNA polymerase shows significant similarity to related viruses, marking the first documented case of a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus linked to the Potexvirus genus in this plant species.

Background: During the last two years, a variety of assays for the serological detection of antibodies to the new SARS-CoV-2 virus have been launched and used as part of standard care in many laboratories. The pace with which these tests have been introduced into routine care emphasizes the importance of quality measures for analytical methods, particularly with regard to the implications of results for clinical and epidemiologic decisions. Accuracy, reliability and comparability of analytical test results are thus essential, and here external quality assessment (EQA) is the most important quality assurance tool.

Here, we describe the full-length genome sequence of a novel potyvirus, tentatively named "Miscanthus sinensis mosaic virus" (MsiMV), isolated from Miscanthus sinensis (silver grass) held in a post-entry quarantine facility after being imported into Western Australia, Australia. The MsiMV genome is 9604 nucleotides (nt) in length, encoding a 3071-amino-acid (aa) polyprotein with conserved sequence motifs. The MsiMV genome is most closely related to that of sorghum mosaic virus (SrMV), with 74% nt and 78.
