The terminal alkyne-Au interaction is emerging as a promising adsorbing bonding motif for organic monolayers, allowing it to be used for installing antifouling layers and/or recognition elements on gold surfaces for biosensing applications. In contrast to the well-known thiol-on-gold monolayers, the long-term hydrolytic, thermal, and electrochemical stability of the alkyne-Au bond remains relatively unexplored. Insight into these is, however, essential to deliver on the promise of the alkyne-Au bond for (bio)sensing applications, and to see under which conditions they might replace thiolate-gold bonds, if the latter are insufficiently stable due to, e.

Elevated CO (eCO) in the atmosphere can increase plant C input into soils. However, in dryland cropping systems, it remains unclear how eCO may alter soil organic C content and stability in relation to potential changes in microbial community composition and whether these changes may depend on soil type and depth. Using an eight-year free-air-CO-enrichment (SoilFACE) system, this study addressed these questions in three farming soils including a sandy Calcarosol, a clay Vertosol and a silt loam Chromosol at depths of 0-40 cm.

Provision of and access to HIV prevention, treatment and care among young gender and sexuality diverse people living with HIV in Zimbabwe occurs in a context characterised by stigma and discrimination based on HIV status and gender identity or sexual orientation. Little is known about the experiences and impact of intersecting stigma on adherence to anti-retroviral treatment (ART) among members of this group. To fill this gap, we conducted a concurrent mixed methods study to collect data through self-administered questionnaires and in-depth interviews among young men who have sex with men and transgender women.

Infection by the liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica, places a substantial burden on the global agri-food industry and poses a significant threat to human health in endemic regions. Widespread resistance to a limited arsenal of chemotherapeutics, including the frontline flukicide triclabendazole (TCBZ), renders F. hepatica control unsustainable and accentuates the need for novel therapeutic target discovery.

C-N atropisomeric amides are important compounds in medicinal chemistry and agrochemistry. Atropselective methods for their synthesis are therefore important. In this study, a novel strategy to make C-N atropisomeric amides based on intramolecular acyl transfer a tethered Lewis basic pyridine or tertiary amine group is reported.
