Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated how different surgical corrections for untreated developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) affect hip stress through 3D models based on CT scans of a pediatric patient.
  • Three models were analyzed: one mimicking the normal hip's acetabular index, another based on a theoretical biomechanical model, and a model reflecting the patient's actual post-operative state.
  • Results showed that the theoretical model had the least stress and best loading distribution, while the acetabular index model showed the most stress and least optimal conditions.

Introduction: The management of hip dislocation in patients older than 9 years of age is a challenge in terms of deciding which is the best treatment course to follow since the main sequelae are as follows: pain, discrepancy in the length of the pelvic extremities and lame gait, with the consequent disability for activities of daily living. In Ho Choi, Thabet A mention limited treatment options, including total hip arthroplasty and hip arthrodesis. These options have their benefits and limitations.

Diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) mostly relies on physical examination and ultrasound, and both methods are operator-dependent. Late detection can lead to complications in young adults. Current evidence supports the involvement of environmental and genetic factors, such as single nucleotide variants (SNVs).

Introduction: Osteogenesis imperfeta (OI) is defined as a heterogeneous group of hereditary diseases, which present with the presence of bone fragility, frequent fractures, bone deformities and short stature. Treatment with biphosfonates in patients with diagnosis of OI has shown a decrease in the frecuency of fractures, as well as an improvement in vertebral bone density. There is little evidence on quality of life in patients diagnosed with OI treated with bisphosphonates, Therefore this study evaluated the quality of life of patients diagnosed with OI after treatment with bisphosphonates.

Article Synopsis
  • Plain radiography is commonly used for checking postoperative outcomes in patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip, but it doesn't accurately diagnose joint changes like articular congruity.
  • The study aimed to examine acetabular volume changes in six patients after various hip surgeries using computed tomography and engineering software.
  • Results showed the operated acetabular volume was larger than the non-operated side, yet the difference wasn't statistically significant; however, age had a significant impact on volume differences.
