Background: Despite recent improvement in preoperative staging, nodal and mediastinal upstaging occur in about 5% to 15% of cN0 patients. Different clinical and tumor characteristics are associated with upstaging, whereas the role of the surgeon's experience is not well evaluated. Background: The treatment of lung cancer depends on histological and/or cytological evaluation of the mediastinal lymph nodes. Endobronchial ultrasound/transbronchial needle aspiration-biopsy (EBUS/TBNA-TBNB) is the only minimally invasive technique for a diagnostic exploration of the mediastinum.
