To evaluate spatially fractionated radiation therapy (SFRT) for very-high-energy electrons (VHEEs) delivered with pencil beam scanning.. Radiochromic film was irradiated at the CERN linear electron accelerator for research using 194 MeV electrons with a step-and-shoot technique, moving films within a water tank.

Slow progress towards implementation of conventional clinical bacteriology in low resource settings and strong interest in greater speed for antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) more generally has focused attention on next-generation rapid AST technologies. In this Review, we systematically synthesize publications and submissions to regulatory agencies describing technologies that provide phenotypic AST faster than conventional methods. We characterize over ninety technologies in terms of underlying technical innovations, technology readiness level, extent of clinical validation, and time-to-results.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined a multifaceted intervention aimed at improving antibiotic prescribing practices among pediatricians in Reggio Emilia over 7 years.
  • It involved sharing scientific literature, local data on antimicrobial resistance, and peer comparisons to inform pediatricians about their prescribing habits.
  • The results showed increased appropriate use of amoxicillin and reduced use of amoxicillin+clavulanate, highlighting that audit and feedback approaches can enhance antimicrobial stewardship efforts.

Article Synopsis
  • CCR-4 antagonists like Mogamulizumab are typically protective against invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, but a case of a 64-year-old man demonstrated a fatal outcome despite treatment for mycosis fungoides.* -
  • The patient showed no symptoms for months, but when he presented with respiratory issues, imaging revealed severe lung damage, and laboratory tests eventually confirmed aspergillosis.* -
  • After starting voriconazole, the patient unexpectedly died just two days later, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the disease and the complexities surrounding immune responses during treatment.*

Ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) irradiation has been shown to have a sparing effect on healthy tissue, an effect known as 'FLASH'. This effect has been studied across several radiation modalities, including photons, protons and clinical energy electrons, however, very little data is available for the effect of FLASH with Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE). pBR322 plasmid DNA was used as a biological model to measure DNA damage in response to Very High Energy Electron (VHEE) irradiation at conventional (0.
