Onsite assessments for mosquito larval habitat sites are critical after a hurricane makes landfall. Due to lack of forward assessment activities and the uncertain path of Hurricane Irma, it was difficult to determine what areas would be most affected, making it challenging to determine the availability of Department of Public Health Environmental Health Strike Team members from unaffected areas. However, lessons learned from assessing the public health response to Hurricane Irma (2017) helped improve the response to Hurricane Michael (2018).

Pilot survey of mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) from southeastern Georgia, USA for and (Rickettsiales: Rickettsiaceae).

Background & Objectives: Mosquito surveillance is one of the critical functions of local health departments, particularly in the context of outbreaks of severe mosquito-borne viral infections. Unfortunately, some viral and parasitic infections transmitted by mosquitoes, manifests non-specific clinical symptoms which may actually be of rickettsial etiology, including Rickettsia felis infections. This study tested the hypothesis that mosquitoes from southeastern Georgia, USA may be infected with Rickettsia felis and Wolbachia, an endosymbiotic bacterium of the order Rickettsiales.

A Multicomponent, Multi-Trigger Intervention to Enhance Asthma Control in High-Risk African American Children.

Introduction: We evaluated the effectiveness and feasibility of implementation of a multicomponent, multi-trigger (MCMT) intervention through a public health department in a high risk population of African American children.

Methods: This was a pragmatic quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study. The population consisted of African American children enrolled in Medicaid and Children's Medical Services who had poorly controlled asthma.

Eastern Equine Encephalitis and YouTube videos: A content analysis.

Background: Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus (EEEV) infections among humans are rare, but can result in severe consequences. YouTube can serve as a platform for EEEV health education. This study aims to assess the characteristics of the top EEEV-related YouTube videos, and whether their informational contents vary by uploading source.
