Low Bone Turnover, Mineralization Impairment, and Cortical Alterations in Patients with Axial Spondyloarthritis: A Histomorphometric Study.

Patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) experience a higher prevalence of fragility fractures, though the pathophysiology of osteoporosis associated with this disease remains poorly understood. The objective of this study was to evaluate the histomorphometric data in r-axSpA patients. Male r-axSpA patients up to 55 years old were enrolled in this cross-sectional study.

The Staged Photocatalytic Reactor in the Removal of Acetaminophen: Aspects of Adsorption and Photocatalysis.

The efficiency of a staged photocatalytic reactor prototype was evaluated on a semi-pilot scale with the removal of acetaminophen, for which anatase particles were synthesized by Sol-Gel and impregnated on rectangular plates of clay. X-ray diffraction and Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence patterns show that the final composite is made up of AlO (14 %), SiO (41 %), CaO (3 %) TiO (34 %), and FeO (7 %). The impregnation method favors the dispersion of Anatase on the surface of the adsorbent.

Molecular mechanisms linking missense ACTG2 mutations to visceral myopathy.

Visceral myopathy is a life-threatening disease characterized by muscle weakness in the bowel, bladder, and uterus. Mutations in smooth muscle γ-actin (ACTG2) are the most common cause of the disease, but the mechanisms by which the mutations alter muscle function are unknown. Here, we examined four prevalent ACTG2 mutations (R40C, R148C, R178C, and R257C) that cause different disease severity and are spread throughout the actin fold.

Background & Aims: Hirschsprung's disease is defined by the absence of the enteric nervous system (ENS) from the distal bowel. Primary treatment is "pull-through" surgery to remove bowel that lacks ENS, with reanastomosis of "normal" bowel near the anal verge. Problems after pull-through are common, and some may be due to retained hypoganglionic bowel (ie, low ENS density).
