Background And Aims: Malnutrition is common in acutely ill geriatric patients, worsening immune function and clinical outcomes. Immunonutrition, containing nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, arginin and glutamine, may improve recovery in this population. Telomeres undergo a progressive shortening process as individuals age, and it has been proposed that severely shortened and dysfunctional telomeres play a role in the aging process and the onset of age-related diseases in human beings.
