Case: A 44-year-old morbidly obese man suffered an ultra-low velocity knee dislocation with anterior and posterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament tears after falling from a stationary bike. He underwent open reduction, external fixator application, and multiligamentous reconstruction. Postoperatively, he developed septic arthritis requiring debridement, graft removal, and antibiotic therapy, with eventual conversion to total knee arthroplasty (TKA).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the increasing cases of Schenck knee dislocation type I injuries in the context of multiligament knee injuries, aiming to understand variations in classification within the existing literature.
  • A systematic review included 50 studies with a total of 3460 reported KD I injuries, highlighting a low prevalence of tibiofemoral KD confirmation at just 0.3%.
  • Findings suggest that unicruciate KD injuries have a significantly lower risk of associated vascular and neurologic injuries compared to bicruciate injuries, indicating important differences in injury management.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of microfragmented adipose tissue (MFAT) for pain relief and improved joint functionality in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in a randomized controlled clinical trial with 1-year follow-up.

Methods: Seventy-five patients were stratified by baseline pain level and randomized to 1 of 3 treatment groups: MFAT, corticosteroid (CS), or saline control (C) injection. Patients 18 years of age or older, diagnosed with symptomatic OA of the knee, with radiographic evidence of OA of the knee and a visual analog pain scale score of 3 of 10 or greater were included.

Multiligament knee injuries (MLKIs) represent a broad spectrum of pathology with potentially devastating consequences. Currently, disagreement in the terminology, diagnosis and treatment of these injuries limits clinical care and research. This study aimed to develop consensus on the nomenclature, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation strategies for patients with MLKI, while identifying important research priorities for further study.
