Are Women Physicians Underrecognized for National Awards in Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine? An Observational Study.

Introduction/aims: Institutions and organizations, including the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), have committed to embracing principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Notwithstanding this commitment, studies repeatedly demonstrate that women physicians are less likely to receive awards in medicine and research compared to their male counterparts. Whether women physicians are less likely to be recognized with AANEM awards is unknown.

Continuous regional anesthesia with erector spinae plane catheters for patients with multiple rib fractures.

Introduction: Opioids are commonly used for acute pain management in patients with rib fractures, but their use poses known risks of addiction and respiratory depression. Regional anesthesia, namely the erector spinae plane(ESP) block, has shown promise as an alternative to opioids in case series. Our aim was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of continuous ropivacaine infusion ESP catheters performed by emergency physicians (EP) for patients with multiple unilateral rib fractures.

Bovine papillomavirus gene expression and inflammatory pathway activation vary between equine sarcoid tumour subtypes.

Equine sarcoids are common non-metastasising skin tumours in horses, associated with bovine papillomavirus (BPV) infection. Six subtypes are recognised (occult, verrucose, nodular, fibroblastic, mixed and malevolent lesions), with variable clinical behaviour. The pathophysiology underlying varying tumour phenotype is poorly understood, and previous data on associations with viral load have been conflicting.
