Automatic Hand Skeletal Shape Estimation From Radiographs.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease whose common manifestation involves the slow destruction of joint tissue, a damage that is visible in a radiograph. Over time, this damage causes pain and loss of functioning, which depends, to some extent, on the spatial deformation induced by the joint damage. Building an accurate model of the current deformation and predicting potential future deformations are the important components of treatment planning.

Complications after interlocking intramedullary nailing of humeral shaft fractures.

Introduction: IM nails have gained popularity for stabilization of humeral shaft fractures (HSF). The initial enthusiasm was tempered by a number of specific complications and thus indications need to be re-evaluated.

Patients And Methods: This retrospective study includes 111 patients with HSF subjected to a treatment protocol of IM fixation with first and second generation of humeral nails.

Oral leukoplakia caused by cinnamon food allergy.

An oral leukoplakic lesion that was clinically thought to be a squamous cell carcinoma is presented. The cinnamon component of chewing gum was discovered to be the etiologic agent. The case is unusual because of the leukoplakia noted; all other previously reported cases described erythematous patches only.

Depressed PMNC blastogenic response in patients with cancer of the head and neck: a study of IL-2 production, IL-2 consumption, and IL-2 receptor expression.

Approximately two thirds of patients with head and neck cancer have been shown to have peripheral mononuclear cells that exhibit a lowered blastogenic response to the T-cell mitogens, concanavalin A and phytohemagglutinin. To investigate the possible mechanisms of this phenomenon, we measured the amount of activated T-cell lymphokine interleukin-2 present in the supernatant of concanavalin A- or phytohemagglutinin-stimulated peripheral mononuclear cells taken from patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract. Concentrations were found that were similar to those of healthy subjects.

The tricyclic trimipramine in the treatment of subjective tinnitus.

We examined 26 consecutive patients with subjective tinnitus. All subjects were treated with the tricyclic antidepressant trimipramine in a double-blind study, each subject acting as his own control. All subjects were evaluated with pure tone audiometry, site of lesion testing, and auditory brain stem evoked response.
