Three-dimensional (3D) simulations of the structure of liquid crystal (LC) torons, topologically protected distortions of the LC director field, under material flows are rare but essential in microfluidic applications. Here, we show that torons adopt a steady-state configuration at low flow velocity before disintegrating at higher velocities, in line with experimental results. Furthermore, we show that under partial slip conditions at the boundaries, the flow induces a reversible elongation of the torons, also consistent with the experimental observations.

Unlabelled: Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic syndrome characterized by non-caseous granulomatous inflammation, although necrotizing sarcoid granulomatosis is considered part of the spectrum of the disease. Drug induced sarcoidosis-like reaction (DISR) is a systemic granulomatous reaction, which is histopathologically identical to primary sarcoidosis - mostly described after the use of biologics like tumour necrosis factor alpha antagonists but also anti-CD20 (rituximab). The authors present the very rare case of a woman with a primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) started on rituximab for disease control, which evolved with a 3-year indolent progressive systemic sarcoid reaction.

Introduction And Objectives: Iron deficiency (ID) is a well-known prognostic marker in heart failure (HF), independent of anemia. However, its impact in acute coronary syndromes (ACSs) is not well established.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients admitted with ACS from January to December 2019.

Introduction: Overweight and obesity are chronic and multifactorial diseases with a strong genetic component contributing to weight gain across all age groups. This study aimed to conduct a Genome-wide Association Study (GWAS) on a cohort of 1,004 Brazilian children (5-11 years old) to identify specific DNA regions associated with susceptibility to overweight.

Methods: The GWAS was performed on children participating in the SCAALA (Asthma and Allergy Social Changes in Latin America) program, with participants classified as either overweight or non-overweight.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is a significant burden on healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries where access to diagnosis and treatment is challenging.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy and cost using tissue microarray (TMA) instead of traditional immunohistochemical (IHC) evaluation for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2), and the proliferation marker Ki-67 and BC subtyping within the Brazilian public health system.

Design: This is a retrospective cohort study comparing TMA slides with traditional whole-slide evaluation for IHC markers in 242 BC cases.
