Food security issues continue to be a challenge in most parts of the globe, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Several research attempts on addressing this issue have mainly been on nutrient replenishment using combined nutrient application of organic amendments and mineral fertilizer inputs. The study examines the extent to which development and other key factors influence environmental sustainability risk among developing economies in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Empirical analyses were carried out using panel corrected standard error (PCSE), an estimation technique by Beck and Katz, Am Polit Sci Rev, 634-647, (1995). The results suggest that development, defined by a more holistic index, has significant positive impact on CO emissions, but negative impact on ecological footprint among economies in the sub-region.

A total of 102 bacterial strains isolated from nodules of three Bambara groundnut and one soybean cultivars grown in nineteen soil samples collected from northern Ghana were characterized using multilocus gene sequence analysis. Based on a concatenated sequence analysis (glnII-rpoB-recA-gyrB-atpD-dnaK), 54 representative strains were distributed in 12 distinct lineages, many of which were placed mainly in the Bradyrhizobium japonicum and Bradyrhizobium elkanii supergroups. Twenty-four of the 54 representative strains belonged to seven putative novel species, while 30 were conspecific with four recognized Bradyrhizobium species.

Low inherent nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) contents of smallholder farms limit maize grain yield. Maize grain yield response to N, P, and K mineral fertilizer application and economically optimal rates for nitrogen (EOR), phosphorus (EOR), and potassium (EOR) were evaluated on a Ferric Acrisol within the semi-deciduous forest zone of Ghana. The nutrient rates evaluated were N (0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 kg N ha), P (0, 30, 60, and 90 kg ha PO), and K (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg ha KO).

Integration of acquired immunity into microbial risk assessment for illness incidence is of no doubt essential for the study of susceptibility to illness. In this study, a probabilistic model was set up as dose response for infection and a mathematical derivation was carried out by integrating immunity to obtain probability of illness models. Temporary acquire immunity from epidemiology studies which includes six different transmission scenarios such as symptomatic individuals infectious, pre- and post-symptomatic infectiousness (low and high), innate genetic resistance, genogroup 2 type 4 and those with no immune boosting by asymptomatic infection were evaluated.
