Community consensus on core open science practices to monitor in biomedicine.

The state of open science needs to be monitored to track changes over time and identify areas to create interventions to drive improvements. In order to monitor open science practices, they first need to be well defined and operationalized. To reach consensus on what open science practices to monitor at biomedical research institutions, we conducted a modified 3-round Delphi study.

Mineralogy and heavy metal assessment of the Pietra del Pertusillo reservoir sediments (Southern Italy).

The Pietra del Pertusillo freshwater reservoir is a major artificial lake of environmental, biological, and ecological importance located in the Basilicata region, southern Italy. The reservoir arch-gravity dam was completed in 1963 for producing hydroelectric energy and providing water for human use, and nearby there are potential sources of anthropogenic pollution such as urban and industrial activities. For the first time, the minero-chemistry of the lake and fluvio-lacustrine sediments of the reservoir have been evaluated to assess the environmental quality.

A Golgi-based KDELR-dependent signalling pathway controls extracellular matrix degradation.

We recently identified an endomembrane-based signalling cascade that is activated by the KDEL receptor (KDELR) on the Golgi complex. At the Golgi, the KDELR acts as a traffic sensor (presumably via binding to chaperones that leave the ER) and triggers signalling pathways that balance membrane fluxes between ER and Golgi. One such pathway relies on Gq and Src.

Oxidative stress plays an important role in zoledronic acid-induced autophagy.

Several pre-clinical and clinical studies have demonstrated zoledronic acid (Zol), which regulates the mevalonate pathway, has efficient anti-cancer effects. Zol can also induce autophagy. The aim of this study is to add new understanding to the mechanism of autophagy induction by Zol.
