Purpose: One-anastomosis-gastric-bypass (OAGB) has become a common bariatric procedure worldwide. Marginal ulcers (MU) are a significant non-immediate complication of gastric bypass surgeries. There seems to be concern among surgeons that MU are more common after OAGB compared with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) due to the constant and extensive exposure of the anastomosis to bile.

Magnetic nanomaterials are gaining interest for their many applications in technological areas from information science and computing to next-generation quantum energy materials. While magnetic materials have historically been nanostructured through techniques such as lithography and molecular beam epitaxy, there has recently been growing interest in using soft matter self-assembly. In this work, a triblock terpolymer, poly(isoprene--styrene--ethylene oxide) (ISO), is used as a structure directing agent for aluminosilicate sol nanoparticles and magnetic material precursors to generate organic-inorganic bulk hybrid films with co-continuous morphology.

Higher Rates of Complicated Appendicitis During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Year-to-Year Analysis.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted presentation, management strategies, and patient outcomes of numerous medical conditions. The aim of this study is to perform a year-to-year comparison of clinical outcomes of patients with acute appendicitis (AA) before and during the pandemic.

Methods: Patients treated for AA during the initial 12-mo period of the pandemic at our institute were compared to those treated for AA during the 12-mo period before.

Surgical aspects of small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors.

Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are a heterogeneous group of epithelial tumors with a predominant neuroendocrine differentiation. Although NETs are usually considered rare neoplasms, small intestinal NETs are the most common primary malignancy of the small bowel, with an increasing prevalence worldwide during the course of the past few decades. The indolent nature of these tumors often leads to a delayed diagnosis, resulting in over one-third of patients presenting with synchronous metastases.
