Established in July 2012, Enroll-HD is both an integrated clinical research platform and a worldwide observational study designed to meet the clinical research requirements necessary to develop therapeutics for Huntington's disease (HD). The platform offers participants a low-burden entry into HD research, providing a large, well-characterized, research-engaged cohort with associated clinical data and biosamples that facilitates recruitment into interventional trials and other research studies. Additional studies that use Enroll-HD data and/or biosamples are built into the platform to further research on biomarkers and outcome measures.

Myocardial function deteriorates over the course of fibrotic cardiomyopathy, due to electrophysiological and mechanical effects of myofibroblasts that are not completely understood. Although a range of experimental model systems and associated theoretical treatments exist at the levels of isolated cardiomyocytes and planar co-cultures of myofibroblasts and cardiomyocytes, interactions between these cell types at the tissue level are less clear. We studied these interactions through an engineered heart tissue (EHT) model of fibrotic myocardium and a mathematical model of the effects of cellular composition on EHT impulse conduction velocity.

The present study was designed to determine whether loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in the p arm of chromosome 9 in invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast is detected during the neoplastic progression of the disease. Using laser capture microdissection (LCM) epithelial cells were isolated from 14 invasive ductal carcinoma cases (IDC), ductal carcinomas (DCIS), normal mammary lobules, skin and/or lymph nodes of paraffin embedded tissue sections. LOH analysis of chromosome 9p was performed utilizing the microsatellite markers D9S199, D9S157, D9S171, D9S265 and D9S270.

The US National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke convened major stakeholders in June 2012 to discuss how to improve the methodological reporting of animal studies in grant applications and publications. The main workshop recommendation is that at a minimum studies should report on sample-size estimation, whether and how animals were randomized, whether investigators were blind to the treatment, and the handling of data. We recognize that achieving a meaningful improvement in the quality of reporting will require a concerted effort by investigators, reviewers, funding agencies and journal editors.
