Vaccination coverage according to race or skin color in children born in 2017-2018 in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil: a population survey.

Objective: To analyze vaccination coverage up to 24 months of age according to race/ skin color in the 2017-2018 live birth cohort in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.

Methods: Population-based survey conducted in 2020 and 2021. Vaccination coverage up to 24 months of age was estimated according to administered, valid and timely doses.

Lectin from microalgae: Non-toxic to human cells and effective against Leishmania.

New leishmanicidal products are needed for the treatment to be effective, since current drugs are toxic to healthy human/animal cells and have low efficacy against the parasite. Bioactive compounds from microalgae, such as lectins, can be explored as new anti-Leishmania candidates. This study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic and anti-Leishmania action of the cell extract (CE) and lectin (CVU) from Chlorella vulgaris biomass.

Osteoprotegerin and Vascular Dysfunction in Patients with Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease and Those without Renal Dysfunction: A Case-Control Study.

Background: Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a marker of vascular calcification and cardiovascular risk in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Objective: This study aimed to compare and correlate OPG values with flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and pulse wave velocity (PWV) measurements in patients in stage 3 CKD and those without renal dysfunction.

Methods: This case-control study was conducted in a specialized hypertension center in 2022.

Structural characterization of a sulfated polysaccharide from Gracilariadomingensis and potential anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects.

Seaweeds are natural sources of sulfated polysaccharides (SPs), biopolymers with remarkable pharmacological properties, including biological actions capable of attenuating components of the inflammatory process such as edema, cytokines, cell migration and pain. Our results confirm that SPs obtained from Gracilaria domingensis (SP-GD) are agarans, primarily composed of residues of β-d-galactopyranose 6-sulfate and 3,6-anhydro-α-l-galactopyranose. Specifically, SP-GD at a dose of 10 mg/kg was effective in significantly reducing paw edema induced by carrageenan or histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, 48/80 and prostaglandin E2.
