Article Synopsis
  • Organ transplantation in Australia relies heavily on deceased donors, with Indigenous Australians participating in organ donation at two-thirds the rate of non-Indigenous Australians.
  • A study focused on the experiences of Indigenous people revealed key barriers to organ donation, including cultural taboos, discomfort in discussions, inadequate education, and distrust in the healthcare system.
  • Recommendations include improving cultural competence among clinicians and providing targeted, community-based education about organ donation before individuals face critical health situations.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied how well the right side of the heart (RV) works and if it affects how patients do after a heart treatment called cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
  • They looked at data from 243 patients over several years to see if there was a link between RV function and survival rates.
  • The results showed that RV function didn’t really change the long-term outcomes for patients after getting CRT, suggesting doctors shouldn’t use RV measures to decide who should get the treatment.

The aim of this paper is to present the use of a portable, unshielded magnetocardiograph (MCG) and identify key characteristics of MCG scans that could be used in future studies to identify parameters that are sensitive to cardiac pathology. We recruited 50 patients with confirmed myocardial infarction (MI) within the past 12 weeks and 46 volunteers with no history of cardiac disease. A set of 38 parameters were extracted from MCG features including both signals from the sensor array and from magnetic images obtained from the device and principal component analysis was used to concentrate the information contained in these parameters into uncorrelated predictors.

The application of a carbon-silicon bioisosteric replacement strategy to find new acaricides with improved properties led to the discovery of Sila-Cyflumetofen 6B, a novel and highly potent acaricide. The essential t-butyl group in the beta-ketonitrile acaricide Cyflumetofen 6A could be swapped with the bioisosteric trimethyl-silyl group with retention of high level acaricidal activity and favourable pharmacological properties. Sila-Cyflumetofen 6B was found to possess similar preferred energy-minimized conformation and electrostatic potential surface compare to Cyflumetofen 6A.
