Extracorporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO) is a well-established therapy for respiratory failure. Refractory hypoxemia, despite the use of ECMO, remains a challenging problem. The ECMO circuit may not provide enough oxygenation support in the presence of high cardiac output, increased physiologic demand, and impaired gas exchange.

Background And Objective: There are different methods for evaluating dry eye disease (DID), including questionnaires that analyze different aspects of its symptoms, which are important for its better understanding and therapeutic management. The Dry Eye Questionnaire 5 (DEQ-5), is unique in its kind, because in addition to its simplicity, it measures symptoms in 4 dimensions. The aim of this study is to adapt culturally and linguistically and validate this instrument to the Chilean population.

In these patients an inherited prothrombotic risk factor, including factor V Leiden G1691A gene mutation, should be considered during an event of thrombosis. Improving the glycemic control is the first factor that should be controlled in a patient who carries a genetic prothrombotic risk factor.
