The rapid loss of viability, coupled with the difficulties and limitations in conserving coffee seeds, are some of the challenges that nurseries are currently facing. Thus, the objective of this work was to analyze the physiological quality of stored Arabica coffee seeds from cultivars recommended for planting in Brazilian mountainous regions. Seeds from 10 Arabica coffee cultivars were used: Catucaí-785/15, Catucaí-2SL, Catucaí-24/137, Japan, Arara, Acauã, Catuaí IAC-81, Mundo Novo IAC-379/19, Catuaí IAC-62, and Caturra IAC-479.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study developed a combined setup using a multi-commuted flow analysis system and a DIY luminometer for measuring antioxidants in red and white wines via chemiluminescence detection.
  • - The method measures the reaction of hypochlorite with wine antioxidants, followed by an oxidation reaction with luminol in alkaline conditions, leading to established optimal measurement parameters.
  • - The results showed strong linearity in antioxidant detection across specific concentration ranges, a low coefficient of variation, and high recovery rates, with a detection capacity of up to 100 samples per hour using minimal reagents.

In Brazil, there is 13% of the world's bat diversity, is the second most diverse group of mammals, playing a crucial role in providing ecosystem services that benefit humans. However, anthropogenic disturbances exacerbate processes of species extinction, shifts in geographic distributions, and phenological changes, despite efforts to safeguard biodiversity through the creation of Conservation Units and Indigenous Lands. Moreover, gaps in taxonomic knowledge and challenges related to species distribution hinder the effective implementation of conservation strategies in protected areas.

The Amazon rainforest has approximately 23% of its sampled area dedicated to bats, making it one of the least sampled and most diverse regions for bats in Brazil. The lack of sampling results in a lack of knowledge regarding the accurate geographical distribution of bat species. This lack is referred to as the Wallacean shortfall, which should be addressed with primary data obtained from in situ collections.
