Problem: Anterior dislocation of the articular disk of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) found by MRI tomography often presents a problem. It may persist in MRI despite improvement of articular symptoms and even be found in healthy persons free of any symptoms. Can this be explained by the similarity in structure of the anterior connective tissue of the disk and capsule and their pathological changes? Is a second coronal plane required for MRI investigation?

Material And Methods: The preauricular regions of 72 patients of the TMJ clinic were examined by oblique-sagittal and oblique-coronal MRI.

Objective: Fibrocartilage that bears tensile stress is typically fixed bilaterally to adjacent bone by collagenous fibres. For the temporomandibular joint, such disc fixations in the anterior and lateral regions have not been described, even in MRT findings of anterior disc dislocations without reduction. By observing collagenous fibres of the anterior and lateral discuss and capsule tissue, we sought to establish whether tensile load capacities typical for fibrocartilage also apply to the discuss articularis of the mandibular joint in sagittal direction.

Background: A 42-year-old white female complaining of decreased vision was examined and small golden particles were found in the macular regions of both eyes. It was ascertained that the patient had been using an oral bronzing agent, canthaxanthine (Orobronze), for the previous 10 years.
