Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated choroidal vascular responses in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) patients using optical coherence tomography (OCT) during temporary blood pressure increases from physical stress.
  • It compared CSCR patients with age-matched healthy individuals, measuring parameters like mean ocular perfusion pressure (MOPP) and choroidal thickness at rest and during hand-grip exercises.
  • Results showed CSCR patients had higher MOPP and choroidal thickness compared to controls, but unlike healthy subjects, they did not exhibit a vasoconstrictive response to stress, indicating possible impairment in their choroidal blood flow regulation.

DGA (diglycolamide) ligands show a different extraction behavior of trivalent metal ions by changing the branching alkyl chain length as well as the branching at the methylene position. There are no studies of these factors on the extraction efficiency of these DGA derivatives for the extraction of tetravalent actinides. We have evaluated four different DGA derivatives for the extraction of Np, Pu, and Th from molecular diluents.

The discovery of inhibitors for sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) and glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) has significantly improved type 2 diabetes management. Large-scale clinical studies have shown that both SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 RA enhance cardiovascular health. Benefits include reduced cardiovascular disease risk, lower mortality, fewer heart failure hospitalizations (SGLT2 inhibitors), and stroke prevention (GLP-1 RA).

An extraction chromatography resin, prepared by the impregnation of bis-octyloxy-calix[4]arene-mono-crown-6 (BOCMC)onto an acrylic ester based polymeric support material, gave excellent uptake data for the removal of radio-cesium (Cs-137) from nitric acid feed solutions. The weight distribution coefficient (K) value of >300 obtained during the present study at 3 M HNO was the highest reported so far while using a calix-crown-6 based extraction chromatographic resin material. Analogous resin reported previously has yielded a K value <100 at comparable feed conditions.

Separation of Am and Cm is one of the most challenging problems in the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle. In the present work, we exploited the cooperative effect of the opposite selectivity of hydrophobic branched DGA derivatives and hydrophobic N-donor heterocyclic ligands taken in two different phases to achieve improved separation behavior. A systematic study was performed using a series of DGA derivatives to understand the effect and the position of branching in the alkyl chains on the separation behavior of Am and Cm.
