Mortality and sequelae associated with regional use of intracranial devices among patients with pneumococcal meningitis: a nationwide, population-based cohort study.

Objectives: Intracranial devices may be used to treat or guide the treatment of increased intracranial pressure in patients with pneumococcal meningitis. European guidelines do not recommend the routine use of intracranial devices in the management of pneumococcal meningitis. However, in some countries, intracranial devices are used routinely, but the effect remains unknown.

Neurological Disorders and Use of Healthcare Services After Enteroviral Meningitis in Childhood: A Nationwide, Population-Based Cohort Study.

Background: Nervous system infections are associated with long-term risks of neurological disorders and healthcare service utilization, but little data exist on the long-term risks of enteroviral meningitis in childhood.

Methods: We performed a population-based, nationwide registry-based matched cohort study (1997-2021). We included 925 children with enteroviral meningitis aged <17 years, a comparison cohort, and a cohort of siblings of all individuals.

Neurological Disorders and Use of Healthcare Services After Bacterial Meningitis in Childhood: A Nationwide, Population-Based Cohort Study.

In this population-based, nationwide Danish cohort study, bacterial meningitis in childhood was associated with increased neurological morbidity. The risks were highest among young children, who also received more antiepileptic medication. All children had increased frequency of hospital visits.

Hospital-Acquired Bloodstream Infections in Relation to Intensive Care Unit Stays During Hospitalization-A Population-Based Cohort Study.

Little is known about the clinical characteristics and pathogens causing hospital-acquired bloodstream infections (HA-BSIs) in relation to an intensive care unit (ICU) stay. Population-based cohort study, comprising 35% of the Danish population, 2009-2016. We derived four patient groups with first-time HA-BSIs: no ICU stay during the admission (non-ICU patients) and HA-BSI acquired before, in, or after an ICU stay (before-ICU, in-ICU, and after-ICU patients).

The increasing incidence and mortality of bacteremia in Denmark from 2010 to 2022: a population-based nationwide cohort study.

Objectives: An increasing incidence of positive blood cultures has been reported in several countries. This represents an important challenge for public health due to the large number of hospital admissions with high mortality among these patients. This study aims to characterize the epidemiology and mortality associated with positive blood cultures.
