Unlabelled: Nitrogen (N) fixation in association with mosses could be a key source of new N in tropical montane cloud forests since these forests maintain high humidity levels and stable temperatures, both of which are important to N fixation. Here, nutrient availability could be a prominent control of N fixation processes. However, the mechanisms and extent of these controls, particularly in forests at different successional stages, remains unknown to date.

Muscle Contractility in Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis.

Introduction/aims: Primary hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HypoPP) can present with periodic paralysis and/or permanent muscle weakness. Permanent weakness is accompanied by fat replacement of the muscle. It is unknown whether the permanent muscle weakness is solely due to fat replacement or if other factors affect the ability of the remaining muscle fibers to contract.

Factors affecting the diagnostic delay of myasthenia gravis.

Background: Early detection and diagnosis of myasthenia gravis (MG) is important to improve the chance of remission and overall prognosis. This study aims to investigate the factors affecting the diagnostic delay of MG thereby highlighting the challenges in the diagnostic process.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study examining characteristics and factors involved in the diagnostic process of MG.

Enhanced control of a brain-computer interface by tetraplegic participants via neural-network-mediated feature extraction.

To infer intent, brain-computer interfaces must extract features that accurately estimate neural activity. However, the degradation of signal quality over time hinders the use of feature-engineering techniques to recover functional information. By using neural data recorded from electrode arrays implanted in the cortices of three human participants, here we show that a convolutional neural network can be used to map electrical signals to neural features by jointly optimizing feature extraction and decoding under the constraint that all the electrodes must use the same neural-network parameters.

Attitudes of Employees in Tourism Towards Guests with Disabilities in Norway: A Survey Study.

Associations for people with disabilities in Norway receive much feedback about negative experiences with travel. Little research has been done on this topic, and thus there is little knowledge about what can be done to improve these experiences. In this study, we have mapped travel experiences of people with disabilities and attitudes from employees in the tourism industry with two digital surveys.
