Purpose: To evaluate clinical outcomes after bilateral or contralateral implantation of the Gemetric™ (G) and Gemetric™ Plus (GPlus) diffractive trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs).

Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, multi-center open-label study comparing clinical results and subjective patient responses around 6 months after implantation of the study lenses (toric and non-toric) in three different groups (bilateral G, bilateral GPlus and contralateral G/GPlus implantation). Results included the manifest refraction, uncorrected and distance corrected monocular and binocular visual acuity (VA) at distance, intermediate and near; the defocus curve; contrast sensitivity; and patient reported outcomes regarding spectacle independence, satisfaction and visual disturbances.

Purpose: We assess the ability of adenovirus mediated expression of the Escherichia coli cytosine deaminase gene in conjunction with the prodrug 5-fluorocytosine to result in radiation sensitization in the mouse prostate cancer cell line RM-1 in vitro.

Materials And Methods: To document cytotoxicity of gene therapy, RM-1 cells were exposed to escalating doses of adenovirus mediated cytosine deaminase and a fixed dose of 5-fluorocytosine or phosphate buffered saline. Viable cells as determined by exclusion of trypan blue were counted the following day.

Purpose: To determine the relation between ablation zone decentration, measured by corneal topography, and visual and refractive outcome, contrast sensitivity, glare, and subjective reports of halos after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).

Setting: Eye Foundation, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

Methods: This study comprised 70 eyes of 70 patients enrolled into Phase III of the clinical investigation of the VISX 20/20 excimer laser for the correction by PRK of 1.

We report two cases in which hydrogel lens implants have dislocated posteriorly into the vitreous body following YAG laser capsulotomy. These lenses were placed in the bag in conjunction with a capsulorhexis. A comparison with our results using silicone and poly(methyl methacrylate) implants indicates that this phenomenon has occurred only with hydrogel implants.
