Frequency-domain analysis of brain tissue motion has received increased focus in recent years as an approach to describing the response of the brain to impact or vibration sources in the built environment. While researchers in many experimental and numerical studies have sought to identify natural resonant frequencies of the brain, limited description of the associated vibration modes limits comparison of results between studies. We performed a modal analysis to extract the natural frequencies and associated mode shapes of a finite element model of the head.

Multimeric aptamer strategies are often adopted to improve the binding affinity of an aptamer toward its target molecules. In most cases, multimeric aptamers are constructed by connecting pre-identified monomeric aptamers derived from in vitro selection. Although multimerization provides an added benefit of enhanced binding avidity, the characterization of different aptamer pairings adds more steps to an already lengthy procedure.

To enhance the pore structure of green coffee beans (GCB) and detect the sorption capacity and extraction characteristics of flavor compounds before roasting, this study employed several methods: hot air drying (HD), freeze-drying (FD), 3-levels short-time heating with puffing (SHP, SHP, and SHP), and 3-levels microwave with puffing (MWP, MWP, and MWP). These methods were applied to GCBs pre-soaked in water for different times. The effects of these treatments on color change, porosity, microstructure, citric acid sorption capacity, and caffeine and chlorogenic acid extraction yield were investigated.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the relocation of older adults in the US from community living to long-term care facilities (LTCFs). Specifically, it examines the predictive roles of possible and probable dementia and hospital stays in this complex health care transition.

Study Design: Utilizing data from the National Health and Aging Trends Study, a longitudinal cohort study (2011-2019), we employed a panel data approach, which consists of multiple observations over time for the same participants, allowing us to account for both cross-sectional variations (differences between participants) and time-series variations (changes in the same participant over time).

Because of the crucial role of collagen fibers on soft tissue mechanics, there is great interest in techniques to incorporate them in computational models. Recently we introduced a direct fiber modeling approach for sclera based on representing the long-interwoven fibers. Our method differs from the conventional continuum approach to modeling sclera that homogenizes the fibers and describes them as statistical distributions for each element.
