Lipid status in adolescents born with low birth weight.

The study compared anthropometric parameters and lipid status of adolescent boys and girls (14-16 y) born with LBW or ABW. Values for body weight and height of LBW adolescents were lower than those for ABW's. BMI differed significantly between LBW and ABW boys.

The longitudinal project under the title "The health and demographic study of pregnant females and infants" started on a 2 per cent national sample in November 1979.--In a first stage of the project the pregnant women have been examined, in the second stage a longitudinal study of children born alive to these mothers was carried out (still under way).--This is the first longitudinal survey on growth performed on a national representative sample in Hungary.
