The subject of investigation was the comparison of HLA antigen distribution in people with borderline hypertension (BH) and essential hypertension (EH). One hundred twenty-one men with BH and 60 men with EH were studied. The HLA frequency was compared with that in 858 healthy men, who were blood donors.

The authors analyze the frequency of HLA [correction of HIA] antigens in 121 male patients with borderline arterial hypertension and in 60 patients with hypertensive disease, stage II. The frequency of HLA [correction of HIA] antigens in these patients was compared with their frequency in the male population of Leningrad inhabitants (858 healthy donors). Patients with borderline arterial hypertension showed a characteristic increase of the frequency of B16, B18 CW4 antigens.

The spectrum of HLA antigens was studied in 619 control subjects and 357 patients with atherosclerosis of various localization (coronary, cerebral, and lower limbs arteries). Comparative analysis has shown both agreement and differences to exist between patient groups depending on atherosclerosis localization. Significant differences were also found in the level of various lipid components.
