Indications and clinical outcomes of percutaneous cholecystostomies in acute cholecystitis: a study from Qatar.

Introduction: Acute cholecystitis (AC) is a prevalent condition in emergency departments (EDs). Standard care involves early laparoscopic cholecystectomy; however, in cases of delayed presentation, high surgical risk, or during situations like the COVID-19 pandemic, percutaneous cholecystostomy (PC) serves as an alternative management strategy. This study reports our center's experience with PC in managing AC, providing insights from a unique geographical context.

Robust control of a compliant manipulator with reduced dynamics and sliding perturbation observer.

Compliant manipulators equipped with Variable Stiffness Actuation (VSA) possess the ability to safely interact with their environment and adapt to complex tasks. However, the tracking performance of such manipulators is significantly influenced by their intrinsic compliance and varying stiffness. This paper presents a robust control strategy for compliant manipulators equipped with Discrete Variable Stiffness Actuation (DVSA), aimed at enhancing tracking performance under both fixed and varying stiffness conditions.

Neuroprotective potential of 17-oximino-16-arylidene steroids: In vivo and in silico investigations.

Several recent literature reports indicate the strong neuroprotective potential of synthetic heterosteroids, still search for potent, safer and effective neuroprotective steroidal molecules continues. In the current study, a new series of 17-oximino-16-substituted steroids (1-8) has been evaluated in MPTP-induced Parkinson's disease in mice and amyloid-β induced Alzheimer's disease in rats with an intention to discover an effective and efficient neuroprotective molecule. Behavioural studies followed by histopathological and estimation of the several neuroinflammatory biochemical parameters such as acetylcholinesterase, lipid peroxide, reactive oxygen, and nitric oxide species were carried out.

A rational drug design approach led to the synthesis of three pairs of enantiomers derived from the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) pan agonist AL29-26, identifying (S)-2 as a potent and selective PPARα partial agonist. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations elucidated the binding modes of (S)-2 within the ligand-binding domains of PPARα and PPARγ. In vitro, (S)-2 demonstrated significant anti-steatotic effects, upregulating key PPARα target genes involved in lipid metabolism.

Vonoprazan in Management of Refractory Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: An Indian Expert Group Consensus Statements.

Background: Approximately, 40% of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) patients experience insufficient symptom relief from proton-pump inhibitors (PPI), resulting in PPI-refractory GERD (rGERD).

Objective: To review the existing literature and develop an Indian expert group consensus statement on the place of vonoprazan in the management of rGERD.

Materials And Methods: A panel of 35 leading Indian gastroenterologists extensively reviewed the literature to develop consensus statements for the management of rGERD in Indian patients, with a focus on the newly available potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB), vonoprazan.
