Musicality and social cognition in dementia: clinical and anatomical associations.

Human musicality might have co-evolved with social cognition abilities, but common neuroanatomical substrates remain largely unclear. In behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia, social cognitive abilities are profoundly impaired, whereas these are typically spared in Alzheimer's disease. If musicality indeed shares a neuroanatomical basis with social cognition, it could be hypothesized that clinical and neuroanatomical associations of musicality and social cognition should differ between these causes of dementia.

PET imaging of microglia in Alzheimer's disease using copper-64 labeled TREM2 antibodies.

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) plays an essential role in microglia activation and is being investigated as a potential therapeutic target for modulation of microglia in several neurological diseases. In this study, we present the development and preclinical evaluation of Cu-labeled antibody-based PET radiotracers as tools for non-invasive assessment of TREM2 expression. Furthermore, we tested the potential of an antibody transport vehicle (ATV) that binds human transferrin receptor to facilitate transcytosis of TREM2 antibody-based radiotracers to the CNS and improve target engagement.

Developing safe and effective drugs and other medical products is a complex and costly process. Drug development has been, historically, commonly competitive and uncollaborative, and this tendency toward a lack of interaction between stakeholders-the pharmaceutical industry, academia, regulatory agencies, healthcare providers, and communities, among others-can lead to missed opportunities to improve efficiency and, ultimately, public health. The Forum for Collaborative Research was established in 1997 to address current scientific, policy, and regulatory issues in global health through multistakeholder engagement and dialogue.
