Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a ubiquitous environmental contaminant; however, its sources are poorly constrained. One understudied source is from the photochemical reactions of aromatic compounds containing -CF moieties (aryl-CF) including many pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Here, we studied the aqueous photochemistry of 4-(trifluoromethyl)phenol (4-TFMP), a known transformation product of the pharmaceutical fluoxetine.

Background: Social norms shape adolescent sexual and reproductive health behaviours contributing to contraceptive and pregnancy outcomes. No global research agendas exist to guide research on adolescent social norms shifting in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We developed a social norms research agenda to improve adolescent healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy in LMICs.

Nutritional Knowledge and Practices of Low-Income Women During Pregnancy: A Qualitative Study in Two Oaxacan Cities.

Background: Adequate dietary intake is critical for healthy pregnancies. Recent changes in social services in Mexico, coupled with high levels of food insecurity, call into question whether expecting women of the lowest socioeconomic status are able to meet their dietary and nutritional needs in this changing context. The aim of this study was to explore the nutritional practices, education and received and employed among women during their pregnancy.

Social expectations play a crucial role in shaping dietary practices among women and children. However, despite significant attention to promoting social and behavioral change in nutrition-focused programs and research, the influence of social norms on women's agency in enhancing nutrition practices is often overlooked. In this perspective, we advocate for a paradigm shift by incorporating a "norms aware" approach.
