Background/objectives: Rural populations face an elevated risk of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias partially attributed to modifiable risk factors such as physical inactivity. The study gathered key community partners' perspectives about (a) feasibility of implementing the telerehabilitation physical activity behavioral (TPAB) intervention, a virtual program aimed at increasing daily stepping with sensor-based monitoring, and (b) necessary adaptions for implementation for rural-dwelling people with cognitive impairment and care partners (dyads).
Methods: Eleven rural-dwelling individuals (three medical providers, four older adults, and four care partners of individuals with mild cognitive impairment) in Nebraska were recruited for a focus group via fliers and word of mouth.
Background: Chronic visceral hypersensitivity is associated with an overstressed pain response to noxious stimuli (hyperalgesia). Microbiota are active modulators of host biology and are implicated in the etiology of visceral hypersensitivity.
Objectives: we studied the association between the circulating mRNA transcriptome, the intensity of induced visceral pain (IVP), and variation in the oral microbiome among participants with and without baseline visceral hypersensitivity.
Introduction: Despite the widely accepted use of methylthioninium chloride (methylene blue) to treat methemoglobinemia, data regarding clinical outcomes are sparse. We sought to better elucidate the efficacy and tolerability of methylthioninium chloride.
Methods: We identified all cases reported to the New York City Poison Center from 2000 to 2024 in which methylthioninium chloride was administered for methemoglobinemia.
Objectives: Persons with dementia are frequently hospitalized, which threatens their ability to return to and live at home. Current post-acute paradigms tend to default to short-term rehabilitation in a nursing home. Still, alternative post-acute care models are crucial for veterans with dementia to recover at home.
